Anao is an upland barangay in Ginatilan. It is 14 kilometers away from the town. It is bounded by barangay Cagsing in south, Barangay Salamanca in east, Barangay Campisong in west and sitio Labrador, Malabuyoc, Cebu in north. Most of the economic is farming.

Anao is believed to have been established during the later part of the Spanish regime. The name ANAO is said to have originated from the plant ANAHAW or the footstool palm. It is round leaf fountain palm; Wherein the barangay has lots of ANAHAW during that time. So the Spaniards named the barangay as Barangay Anahw.

During the American regime, Americans changedn the name of the barangay. Since ANAHAW is a plant and the area has lots of the said plant. Thay named it as Barangay Anao instead of Barangay Anahaw.

Barangay Anao is created through a Law.

Barangay Anao is one[1] of the fourteen Barangay under the Municipal Government of Ginatilan, a 5th class municipality under the province of CEBU.

According to our forefathers, the first people who settle in the barangay is called ANAWANHON. They came from the particular area, which according to our forefathers was abundant in anahaw plant. The barangay was first named ANAHAW meaning abundant with anahaw plant. Presently, the barangay is named Barangay ANAO.
